Bio-based injection and 3D printing

3D printer

Author: CIDAUT 3D printing technology is an additive manufacturing technique that has progressed significantly in the recent years. Some of the advantages of additive manufacturing include the possibility to manufacture free-form complex components that would otherwise be impossible to build with subtractive manufacturing processes. For example, 3D printing offers the possibility to make accurate and […]

Flexible plastic packaging: the challenges of producing bio-based multilayer films or monolayers with bioadditives

Flexible plastic packaging

The use of plastic materials due to their great variety of properties and structures, has caused the plastic packaging sector to represent around 44% of the plastics market . However, these packaging systems, many of which involve the use of multilayer structures for high requirement applications, present issues to be classified and/or recycled (heterogeneity of waste, separation difficulties, degradation, contamination, etc.), with the potential loss of resources, as well as problems in the management of packaging waste.

Environmental, health and safety and regulatory considerations of nanomaterials

Nanotechnologies and nanomaterials have created a high interest in recent years due to their unusual mechanical, electrical, optical and magnetic properties and a wide range of potential usages that could produce advancements in medical treatment, pharmaceutical technologies, food transportation and electronics. However, as their production and utilization proceed to develop, so do worries about its effect on people (e.g. health and safety threat to exposed workers and consumers) and the environment.

Upgrading of pilot lines for the processing of bionanocomposites

In Bionanopolys project, the objective of work package 4 is to upgrade the pilot lines involved in the development of bionanocomposites from the use of the nanomaterials synthesized in WP3, solvents, and organic compounds, extracted from different biomass sources. These pilot plants are part of the network 2 and once upgraded they will propose their services in the Bionanopolys OITB.

The application potential of Bionanopolys – an overview about use cases

The BioNanoPolys industrial partners role in the project focus on the development of different user cases by using the biomaterials obtained by the BioNanoPolys partners during the project development and the pilot plants available in the OITB. Therefore, the main goal is the demonstration of the technical feasibility of BioNanoPolys services and pilot plants.

Characterization, process monitoring and modelling activities

Several partners of Bionanopolys joined the project to bundle expertises on all important aspects about the develeopment of bio-based nanomaterials. Technical support activities will allow to improve the production processes of the pilot lines.

Bionanopolys Interview in the COSSMA Digital Journal

In June 2022, an interview with Prof. Harald Pichler from acib GmbH/ TU Graz and Prof. Stefano Manfredini from Ambrosialab was published: Getting rid of non-recyclable materials – the beauty industry is familiar with this wish and demand.
